I stretched my hands out over the earth and sent the wild beasts to the remote corners of the earth for you. You were ill equipped to deal with them: you have little hair, feeble skin, small teeth, no claws. But I sent an angel to sit on each of your backs, with a harness in your mouth; and that angel guided your hands, and made you toil with your hands until you had built and built. If I ever were to withdraw that angel, and call the angels back that sit upon each of your backs, you would return to the trees, and live your lives as lazy monkeys in a chaotic land you don’t understand. |
