These are your worms and your fires, and the worms must be fed, the fires must be fed, until we are made into eating machines--thoroughly disgusting eating things. Some speak of the dignity of man and the majesty of man--but in the beginning God said of us, "Let there be things created to eat, things made of stomachs," and so it was done. And so we have appetites and are made of appetites--we work and work that we may buy and buy, for our appetites must be satisfied, and the stomachs we are made of must be filled. This is why we have a dazed look in our eyes and walk about buying things as if we were sleepwalking--for if we are by nature self-interested, we are by nature eating machines. This is why God has said, "Let there be disease on the surface of the earth, and let there be organisms to disease the surface of the earth," and so man was created, and man has no dignity: man is made of stomachs.
