this is your coldness, this is your meanness, you are made of cold bone through and through, you are a great expanding skeleton, I see you hanging there upon those gallows, I see you lying there with a shotgun wound in your head, I see the suicide and the murder victim, I see the drowning victim and the victim of fire, you are all my good friends, sweet spirits, you have awakened, and yet you still sleep, you have passed into death, and you are overflowing with sorrowful life, O the dead live like nothing else lives, we living humans are half corruptible flesh and half immortal life, but you, my poltergeist, are pure life, life with nothing corruptible about it, O come with me to the tombs, sweet Lazarus, lay your head down upon this stone and sleep, lay your body down among this dust and rest yourself, your journey has been long, you have forever been fleeing your past, you know something happened to you that ought not to have happened, you know you were plucked out of the expansiveness of death and thrust into corruptible life, you wander forever, fleeing the deep black waters, fleeing the mystery only you have seen, you are a veteran as none other is a veteran, you are a traveler as none other is a traveler, you have passed into the shadows and been thrust back into the hot sunlight, you have taken on a decaying coat, a decaying robe, you have been thrust back into the world of corruption, you have been thrust back into a filthy set of clothes, O come with me to the tombs, you shall lie down among the ash and dust, you shall lie down among the deep still water and the deep cool earth, you shall be in the shadows once more for a time, you shall be in that irrational and contradictory and crazy world once more, nothing will make any sense there, and it will be lovely that nothing makes any sense, there will be no rules or leader there, and it will be lovely that there are no rules or leader, everything will fall upward, everything will fall southward, rain shall travel from the earth to the heavens, fish shall swim through the dry desert and sharks shall haunt the dry city streets, O come with me to the tombs, you belong there, gentle man, you belong among the shadows, so be in the shadows awhile and we shall drink of the stilled waters of caves, we shall drink of still pools that haven’t had current or wave for centuries, we shall see many terrors there, we shall see much loveliness there, O let us go,
