My father probably hasn't read a novel since he was thirty. He reads only nonfiction. "If someone wrote a historical book and made up certain facts instead of finding them with research, you wouldn't read it, would you," he said once. "That's what a novel is, only they made up the whole damn thing. I would never read a book somebody just made up. What nonsense!" Right now he's reading about chimpanzees.
